Preview Pane is provides to read mail right next to your list of conversations, making mail reading faster and adding more context and gives new look to your gmail account. So you can make your friends to wonder and convenient to you while surf in gmail! See the look of preview pane below.

HOW TO SET THIS FEATURE IN YOUR GMAIL ACCOUNT?
Log in to your gmail account. Click the Gear button at top right corner. Now click the 'Labs' . Now you will see lot of lab feature. Find the 'Preview Pane' and click the 'enable' options. Finally Don't forgot to click 'save changes' button at the bottom. Now check your inbox by refresh.
Now click 'Mail Settings' by clicking 'gear' button at top right corner. Now its redirect you to 'general' tab. In this tab, see the preview pane setting. Choose the seconds as your wish for time to take mark as read.
